Discharged: 12th May 1848, at Chatham, unfit for service, aged 41 years and 6 months

Conduct: very BAD [sic]

Imprisoned: various dates between 1833 and 1848, but spent between 68 days and 4 ½ years as a soldier at a time before being imprisoned again

Medical: ‘This is to certify that Private James Dunden of 61st Regiment labours under chronic rheumatism dysphasia and declining activity caused by climate and military service and not the result of indulgence in the use of intoxicating liquor or other vices as far as known here in consequence of which he is indeed unfit for further military service’

Discharged: 6th July 1823, in consequence of bruised testicle of 13 months standing, aged 32 years

Medical: diseased testicle in consequence of a severe bruise he received by falling when on revenue duty at Enniskillen in April 1822.  Slightly wounded head at…(?) and a slight wound to the belly at Toulouse.

Medical: ‘Private Michael Dundon complains of rheumatic pains but he does not seem to have any particular complaint – he is no longer strong enough nor active enough for military service.  His disability is perhaps caused by age and service aggravated by intemperate habits.’

Discharged: unfit for further service, 18th October 1850 from Glasgow Barracks

Medical: ‘ Secondary syphilis and isophalosus constitution, disease aggravated by his own misconduct in not having reported himself when on detachment to the private practitioner in medical charge.  Disqualified from military duty in consequence of syphilitic ulcers on his lower extremities and other parts of his body together with isophalosus constitution and slightly impaired intellect.’

Richard Dundon

Discharged: 9th February 1842, Chatham

Medical: unfit for service as a result of very varicose veins in his left leg, and shortage of breath and general debility, as a result of long army service.

Conduct: Irregular character as a result of drinking, but a good duty soldier who was seldom in hospital.

Complexion: fresh on enlistment, dark on discharge

Pension: 6d, paid to Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Wales

Thomas Dundon

Born: Castletownroche, Cork  (Computed year of birth: 1805)

28th Regiment of Foot

Enlisted: 13th November 1825, Cork City

Discharged: 14th July 1845, Chatham

Medical: In hospital 87 days since October 1843 due to fever. Thomas became too debilitated to function as a soldier, so was employed in the orderly room for four months prior to his discharge.
