Bolin Dunn moved his family from North Carolina in the late 1850's to Choctaw County, Alabama. Two sons were killed in the Civil War, Simon E and John B. Two sons and one daughter were never heard of again, Thomas and Jesse and Margaret.William Hampton Dunn is buried in an Old Soldier's Home cemetry north of Montgromery, AL were he spent his last years. He never married.
I spend every vacation runnig around Alabama looking for any little piece of information I can find. Next year I am off to Anson County, North Carolina. If anyone thinks they can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
I did find last summer where Simon was killed during the war. I was visting Ft Morgan, AL fort site. At a certion display something kept pulling back to the display. Finally I got irrated and said "ok what do we have here. A yankee Confederate Officer and private was killed when a cannon exploded". That's when the bells went off. My grandfather had always told me that his grandfather was killed when a drunk Confederate officer double loaded a cannon and set it off. Sure enough, the date of the explosion was the date of his death. There were only two men killed at Ft Morgan outside of the Big Battle which was five months later. The historian at the fort confimed, it was my Great Great Grandfather.
