  Notes for Otmar Karl Kallus:
Otmar Kallus owned the Harness and Saddle shop in Schulenburg
which was originally the George Herder Mercantile Store. It
had been moved from High Hill to Schulenburg about the time the
reailroad came to Schulenburg. Then it became the August
Herder Saddle Shop then Otmar's son-in-law Joe Kleckar had the
Saddle and Harness Shop and finally it was called the Joe
Kleckar Upholstery Shop. The story is told that about the time
the cars appeared in Schulenburg OtmarKallus had his son Robert
take their horse out in the road so that Charlie Vogt could
drive his car by slowly several times to get the horse used to
the automobiles. In 1920 the Otmar Kallus Harness Shop sold
tires and tubes guaranteed for 6000 miles. Ludmilla lived to
the ripe old age of 95 and spent her entire life in the same
part of Schulenburg where she was born 6/7/1872. Her parents
