My ancestry is based on over 35 years of research. I was born in Ottumwa, Wapello County, Iowa on August 22, 1948, the son of Lafayette Struthers and Alice Louise (Nelson) Dupy. I graduated from Ottumwa High School, Ottumwa, Iowa in May of 1967 and spent my first year of college at Ottumwa Heights Community College run by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, Motherhouse in Davenport, Iowa. In 1968, I moved to Creve Coeur, St. Louis County, Missouri to live with my father and my step-mother and attended Meremac Community College in Kirkwood, Missouri. I graduated from Harris-Stowe Teacher's College in July of 1971 and began my career as a teacher in August of 1971 at Rose Fanning Elementary School in south St. Louis. I taught there for two years and then taught for the next five years in Catholic schools in St. Louis County, Missouri, St. Luke the Evangelist school; Sts. John and James school and St. Lawrence the Martyr school. In June of 1978, I moved to Houston, Harris County, Texas and lived here from 1978 to June of 1991 when I returned to Iowa, living in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa until June of 1993, returning to Houston, Texas. I am now in my 32nd year as a teacher and teach 8th grade English in a middle school in Houston ISD. On May 27, 2005 I will retire from teaching and prepare to return to Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, in August of 2005 to live out my retirement years working on my family history.
