Welcome to Colman William Scanlan-Duro's family tree. Colman is my son. I'm making this family tree for him and for my father.

-------------------------------------
Some thoughts about family genealogy:

---Tere's no good reason *not* to do at least some. In the past few years, we've gained previously unimaginable powers to record and remember. Computer processors unbelievably fast; digitized photos unbelievably commonplace; hard drives able to store more than we can possibly write.

---After Uncle Tom's funeral, I was standing in Lakeview Cemetary looking at family tombstones with Teta Zoe and Flo. They pointed out that aunts Bea and Proxie would be best at answering some of the questions I had. But they're long gone.

---I'd like to give my son and my dad a sense of continuity. The tree goes back at least 6 generations before Colman. ("BC", as it were.) My son is 5 years old. My father is 75 years old. On the face of it, it's horrible to think of their time together coming to an end. But in the context of seven generations, it seems much more natural.

About this tree:

A family tree can be organized by grandparents' grandparents- that is, by the tree owner's 8 great-great-grandparents on each side. Each great-great-grandparent's (maiden) last name can be used to represent a 'family' or related set of families.
In this tree, each family has a clear ethnicity and (usually) a clear geographical location.

Paternal grandparent Terry's grandparents are (1) Alexi Poda + (2) Olimbia ?; (3) Phillip Duro + (4) ?. Paternal grandparent Teresa's grandparents are (5) Gerald M King + (6) ?; (7) Felix Pollutro + (8) Lillian Diadato.

Also, relatives from some families are very easy to find... other families are literally 'lost.'

EASY TO FIND:

1--The Poda family. Emigrated from the city of Korca, Albania to Jamestown NY at the beginning of the 20th century. Colman's father's father's mother's family. In the U.S. there are dozens of known relatives and at least a dozen 'lost' ones. No relatives in Albania are yet known. No known previous written documentation. Aunts Beatrice and Proxy would have been perfect to help with this project.

5, 6--The King family and related families. Emigrated from Holland in the late 19th century, settling in Clymer NY. Colman's father's mother's father's family. 100+ relatives living in western NY and PA. Annual family reunion. Cousin Everett King has visited relatives in the Netherlands. Documentation of this and related Clymer trees probably exists.

8--The Diadato and Messina families. Emigrated from Italy to Buffalo NY at the end of the 19th century. Colman's father's mother's mother's mother's paternal and maternal lines. Hundreds of relatives could be found. Documentation of this and related Italian trees in Buffalo probably exists.

MAY BE EASY TO FIND

7-The Pollutro family. Emigrated from Italy to Buffalo NY at the end of the 19th century.
3-The Duro family. Colman's father's father's father's father's family. From Korca, Albania. Did not visit the U.S. Very difficult to find until directly related Duro's contacted me over the Internet. They later moved to America. With their help, this branch could actually become easy to find.

VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND:

2-Olimbia's family.
4-Colman's father's father's father's mother's family. From Korca, Albania. Did not visit the U.S.
