Observed Birthday.
Mrs. Mary Durham, an esteemed resident of the Windfall community for seventy-five years or more, reached her eighty-first milestone in life Tuesday, March 16th and the event was observed Sunday at her home here with a happy family gathering. A beautifully decorated birthday cake centered the attractive table where the bounteous pitch-in dinner was spread. Those enjoying the day with Mrs. Durham were: Dave Durham and daughters, Helen and Dorothy of Elwood, Mr. and Mrs. William Durham of Fortville, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Durham and son, Frankie of Anderson, Mr. and Mrs.Jay Durham and daughter, Rosellen and son, Carl Phillip, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fisher and daughter, Mary Lou, all of Windfall. The afternoon was spent with happy social features and Mrs. Durham was remembered with a number of lovely gifts. Another daughter, Mrs. Elmer Coleman and husband, who had been spending a few days at the mother's home had to leave for their home at New Castle Friday and could not be present.
Mrs. Durham is the daughter of George and Martha Berry and was born in Ohio and came to Tipton county when very young. Mrs. Durham has been a member of the Hazel Dell Friends church for many years. She retired from the farm in the Hazel Dell neighborhood about 30 years ago and purchased property at the south edge of Windfall where she has lived alone. She is known as a highly industrious woman and having been blessed with remarkable health has only gradually been forced to slow down the past few years. At present she is able to do her household chores and is happy in her work.
She has five children. They are: Mrs. Roy Fisher of Windfall, Mrs. Elmer Coleman of New Castle, Dave of Elwood, William of Fortville, and Jay of Windfall and several grandchildren and great-granchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Lola Calverlee, Mrs. Dora Dellinger, and Mrs. Carrie Dellinger all of Dayton, Ohio.
