CAMBRIDGE CITY -- William Lewis Buckland, 73, Goose Heaven Road, died Friday, Sept. 16 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born in Wayne County, the son of William W. and Gertrude L. Rodenberg Buckland, and a life-long resident of the county and he moved to Cambridge City in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 serving in the 645th Anti Aircraft Division and was in the O.S.S. at the end of the war.
He was a member of Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169. He was employed at M&D in Cambridge City for several years and was a lifelong farmer.
Survivors include two sons, William L. Buckland Jr. of Parma, Mich., and Michael D. Buckland of Cambridge City; two daughters, Bonnie L. Barker of Tampa, Fla, and Ricki A. Buckland of North Carolina; six granddaughters, two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald M. Buckland, in 1970, and Robert W. Buckland in 1981.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 at Waskom-Howard-Fisher Capitol Hill Chapel in Cambridge City with the Rev. Stephen John officiating. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery in Dublin with military rites conducted by the Lawrence H. Bertsch American Legion Post 169. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Sept. 18 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Dublin Fire Department.
