Joseph Allen Burchfield, 65, 2320 Locust Lane, Richmond, died unexpectedly Friday, July 20, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 13, 1935, in Meadow Branch, Graham County, N.C., to David James Carter and Ollie Burchfield, and had lived in Richmond since 1962.
He was a retired truck driver for Allied Trucking Co. and an Army veteran. He was a member of Teamsters Local 957 in Dayton, Ohio, Eaton Eagles Lodge, Richmond Moose Lodge and the Teaford American Legion Post in New Paris, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Norma Burchfield; five sons, William Buckland Jr. of Parma, Mich., Michael Dale Buckland of Cambridge City, Donald Eugene Burchfield of Dalton, Ga., Scott Allen Burchfield of Cartersville, Ga., and Christopher Joseph Burchfield of Richmond; two daughters, Bonnie Barker of Dover, Fla., and Ricki Buckland of Icard, N.C.; his mother, Ollie Hunicutt of Meadow Branch, N.C.; two sisters, Virginia Zakowski of Meadow Branch, N.C., and Lois Mathis of Dalton, Ga.; and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Donald Burchfield.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Stegall-Berheide-Orr Funeral Home, 222 N. 10th St., Richmond. The Rev. Gilmer Smith has been asked to officiate. Burial will be at Earlham Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
