I am currently researching the Harbottle/Hardbattle family name.
I assume that some of the spelling variations are due to poor handwriting, poor spelling abilities, and/or poor translations of records.

The only link I have found between Harbottle and Hardbattle appears to be a Richard Harbottle married in Kilnwick 1655 and a Rich Hardbattle married about 1655, first child..Tristan..born in Kilnwick in 1655. The link may be tenuous, at best.

I have just started doing this, and have numerous records to sift through. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have always believed that any Hardbattle would be a relative and so far it appears to be true, however, the link to the Harbottle line carries back further than I had hoped to achieve. And may in fact, be linked to the D'Umfraville's of Harbottle Castle in Northumberland. The assumption, at this point appears to be reasonable. However, much more work on my part is required.
