| We are all descendants of Christophe Crevier, who arrived in Canada from France in the year 1639. Christophe married Jeanne Enard and their last born Jean-Baptiste took the name Duvernay for his last name. The last names of DuVarney/DeVarney were at one time Duvernay and the spelling change took place when our ancestors migrated to the United States. All people with the name DuVarney/DeVarney are related - whether the "v" is capitalized or not! The names Crevier and Duvernay are what we call dit (pronounced "dee") names in Canada. Not all Canadian names are dit names, but ours is. In my May 17, 1997 mailing I explain this in more detail. My mailing list consists of over 100 families. Please contact me if you wish to be included. |
