THE DWYER FAMILY - STELLARTON, NS

Information on the Descendants of Matthew Joseph Dwyer & Mary Maude (Holden) Dwyer. Matthew and Maude were both born in Newfoundland and were married in New Waterford, NS on June 13, 1916.

Matthew was a coal miner by trade.

They started their family in New Waterford, NS. Their first two daughters were born in New Waterford, NS and then they moved to Evansville, Stellarton, NS where they were living when their second daughter Julia died on Feb 24, 1919 from Influenza complicated by convulsions.

The family later moved to 153 Hudson Street, Stellarton, NS. Note: The family home on 153 Hudson Street, Stellarton is still in the family. Matt & Maude's great-grand daughter Christa Marie Spears lives in the home at this time. (Aug 21, 2008). The family home was occupied by Matt & Maude's son Ronald Joseph Dwyer (Gummy) & his wife Ivy for many years. When they passed away, the family home was passed down to Matt & Maude's grandson ,Carl Joseph Spears. Carl's daughter, Christa, resides in the home at this time.

Maude died on Jan 10, 1964 & Matt died Mar 28, 1972 in New Glasgow, N.S.

As of Aug 22, 2008, their daughter Hazel (Dwyer) Holmes Christie is the only child of Matt & Maude's that is still living. Hazel turned 85 years of age on June 28, 2008.

    Richard was born 1n 1906 in Kelligrews, Nfld. He was a brother to Matt Dwyer. He married Lillian Jean Watson in New Waterford, NS in 1928. They raised 2 sons and one daughter in New Waterford, NS. Richard passed away in 1980 and has been laid to rest in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in New Waterford, NS next to his parents John Francis Dwyer & and Julia (Cronin) Dwyer. Note: When I visited the cemetery in Aug 2008, Richard's parents headstones were no longer in the cemetery but Richard's son, james Dwyer, showed me where they were buried. They are buried to the left of Richard.
