My research has gone back to the 16th century in a few cases. I am a member of the Daughters of the Amercian Revolution and am active in SBGC genealogy club here in Tucson.
Our most famous near relative would be Amelia Earhart, my first cousin five generations removed. We also had a Mormon founder, Samuel Stephan White who helped found Pleasant Grove.
