Klopfer, 82 a Buffalo native who worked as a partner in a neighborhood butcher shop and at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, died Monday (July 14, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Hospital after a long illness. Born in buffalo he graduated from Bennett High School and began working in the 1930's as an apprentice in the Walter Peter Butcher Shop at Shirley and Orleans Streets. He later became part-owner of that business, known as Peter and Klopfer, taking it over when his partner retired.
In 1954, he began a home-building business with his brother George, and they operated Klopfer Bros. home building until 1962, when he joined Roswell park as a maintenance supervisor. He worked there for 17 years until his retirement in 1980.
An avid golfer, card player and carpenter, Klopfer was a member of West Seneca Lodge 1111, F&AM; a life member of Reserve Fire Company; and a past noble grnd of Benevolent Trinity Lodge 596, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Survivors include his wife, the former Norma E. Grotke of Orchard Park; a daughter, Carol E. Baker of Orchard Park; four sons, Kenneth P. an ddavid W., both of Orchard Park, Gerald A. of Hamburg and James E; a sister, Esther Graesser of St. Petersburg, Fla., a brother, Harold of Cheektowaga; and a grandchild.
Services will be held at 11 AM Thursday in Hoy Funeral Home, 3855 Seneca St., West Seneca.
