We left our Dear Parents & Brothers and Sistersour home and all such kind Neighbors and Friends with deep regret. Slept at Chard on Monday night and left forLiverpool on Tuesday morning 6:30 arrived at
April 23: Got up about 7, had a good walk on deck. We had our breakfast of bread & butter& coffee. Calledat Queenstowne (?) about 3. Took on board 9 hundredpassengers, 7 hundred Irish & well we know it & 2 hundred foreigners ofdifferent nations. About 4 nearlyeveryone were seasick something terrible to see them. There were only 6 or 7 that were not sickduring the whole of the voyage & Hughie & I were two of them. We were obliged to laugh sometimes althoughwe pitied them. The deckswere covered in sickness above & below but was soon cleaned up. Spent evening on deck, lost sight of landabout 8. Singing &music on all decks, raining a little.
Friday had a walk ondeck first thing, then had our breakfast. Amused ourselves all day in reading, singing,& etc. Had dinner about 1 of soup,fish, beef & potatoes. Enjoy thefood much as we feel so hungry. The seais very calm and ship steady. Enjoyingvoyage very much so far & great many have been sick all day.
Saturday. Spent all day on deck being a lovely day. The sea very calm but ship pitches a greatdeal owing to the wind being contrary. She is traveling good, have made 337 miles from 12 to 12. Passed & saluted a Man of War ship about4. Nearly everyone still sick but we areboth well.
Sunday. Hughie not very well. Most miserable &raining all day. The sea very rough & ship pitching terribly. Went to Church this morning, most ofthem are spending Sunday in singing songs & dancing. Wind very contrary, passed another vesselquite near.
Monday. Had a very rough night. Sea very rough, can hardly stand ondeck. The ship rolls & pitches, thewind is dead against us, very wet & miserable all day but the sea is verygrand & is washing fore part of deck.
Tuesday. The sea very rough but sun is shininglovely. Ship stillrolling terribly. A great manyflying fish washed on deck. All femalespassed Dr. for vaccinations.
Wednesday. Had a wretched night & terribly rough. Passed a lovely iceberg& 6 vessels. Had a good view of them through the telescope. A lot of herrings washed on board & largeschool of porpon passed our ship.
Thursday. The sea still very rough indeed, the shiprolling awful, can’t stand without holding on to something, upsets our food allover us when at meals. Hughie very poorly with headache.
Friday. Had an awful rough night – shall never forgetit. Hughie better but I have an awfulcold. Got up about 3hours. The seamountains high. Shall be glad to see land.
Saturday.Very calm night but am very poorly indeed. We hope to land tomorrow.
Sunday. Passed a good night. Very calm. Sighted land about __ ,came in
Monday. Left our ship about 6, had our baggagesearched then checked, passed all right. Went on board a Tender to go to
