Notes for Arnold Custer:
In "Pennsylvania Mennonite Heritage" Volume IX Number 3 July 1986 there is an article by Chester E. Custer titled "The Kusters and Doors of Kaldenkirchen, Germany, and Germantown, Pennsylvania". Researchers should try to obtain a copy of this article as Chester goes over the research done by Niepoth, Becker, Rotthoff, Lenders, Nieper and others to give us a better understanding of the early history of our family. Chester also visited the churches in Kaldenkirchen associated with the family and was assisted by Leo Peters, a professional archivist and linguist of Kaldenkirchen, in translating records. Chester also did research in Krefeld, in the Mennonite library in the Weierhof and in the archives at Dusseldorf.

Arnold is a witness to the will of his father, Paulus, in Will Book C, no 58, p. 72 Register of wills Office, Philadelphia County Courthouse, Philadelphia, PA

The Renunciation of Right to Administer: Estate of Arnold Kuster, Dec 22, 1739 is file no 35, Orphans' Court, Philadelphia, Pa. There is a copy of this document in Milo Custer's "Custer Genealogies" :
"Know all Men by these presents that I Conrad Custers of the County of Philadelphia. yeoman, for diverse good Causes and Considerations thereunto have renounced and disclaimed and by these presents Do as well for myself and the rest of the children of Arnold Custer, Father, who dyd (i.e. died.) Intestate and by their Order and Consent Renounce mine and their Right of Administration of the Estate of the said Dec'd. Willing and Desiring that the Administration thereof be Committed to Harman Custer Broth(er) of the sd. Deced. In Witness whereof I the said Conrad Custer have hereunto set my Hand and Seal this 22 December 1739.
                                          Conrad Kuster

The Administrator's Bond, Estate of Arnold Kuster, 1739, is file no. 35, Orphans' Court, Philadelphia, PA.

The Deed, Arnold Kuster's heirs to James Brooke, 1740, is in Deed book 32, p. 90, Montgomery County Courthouse, Norristown, PA. A copy of this deed is also in Milo Custer's book, "Custer Genealogies" which states in part:
                  Deed
Arnold Kuster's Heirs to James Brooke
                  1740
"This Indenture made the ....day of ....in the year of our Lord One Thousand seven hundred and forty. Between Conrad Custer and Susanna, his wife, Paul Custer and Sarah, his wife, George Custer and Mary, his wife, Nicholas Custer and Susanna, his wife, Arnold Custer and Barbara, his wife, they the said Conrad, Paul, George, Nicholas and Arnold being the sons of Arnold Custer, late of Hanover Township, in the County of Philadelphia, Bricklayer, deceased.       A note on the names of the counties cited should be made to explain that "About the year 1700 the lands around the Mantawny and the French Creeks were literally outposts of Pennsylvania. On our side of the river (Pottstown) they were a part of Philadelphia County. Chester County was formed in 1682, Berks in 1752, and Montgomery not until 1784." from page 1 of "A History of Pottstown, Pennsylvania 1752-1952" by Paul Chancellor, published by the Historical Society of Pottstown, Pennsylvania in the year 1953.

Notes for Charles Morehead, Jr..:
Research of James Melton, Barbara Denahey, and Barbara Wallace
Some histories say Charles Morehead was born in 1609, son of David Morehead of London, and immigrated to VA in 1630 to manage his father's interest in the Kent Island project. If so, then he would more probably be the grandfather of John Morehead, rather than the father. John, a minor, was named the son of Charles Morehead, deceased in Charles' 1705/06 will in Northumberland Co., VA. Believed to have married 1st Jane Presley and 2nd Sarah Nelms Sarah was his widow. Charles had 8 children. From HUMSTON GLEANINGS: Jane Presley born 29 Jan 1652, parents Peter and Winifred Presley. Married Charles Morehead, had son, John.
