      40. Mathias Young, born Abt. 1772; died Aft. 1835. He was the son of 80. Conrad Young and 81. Elizabeth. He married 41. Millie Holliday 1795 in Kanawha County, Virginia (Source: Kanawha Valley Marriages Volume I, page 1, Mathias Young---Milley Holliday list from Samuel Johnston, 1795.).

      41. Millie Holliday, born Abt. 1777; died Aft. 1823.

Notes for Mathias Young:
There has been confusion with this Mathias Young and Mathias Geyhart/Geyhard Young. 4 April 2001 Brenda Hickman found a deed which proves that these were two different Mathias Youngs:

This Indenture made this 14th day of January in tthe year of our Lord, 1823 Between Mathias Young & Milly his wife and John Young of the County of Nicholas State of Virginia of the one part and Robert Kelly of the County and State aforesaid of the other part ______ that the said Mathias Young & Milly his wife and John Young for the consideration of the sum of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said Robert Kelly , the receipt whereof they hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained, _____ and sold and by these presents as granted, bargained, and sold unto the said Robert Kelly, his heirs and asigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Nicholas on Peters Creek above the mouth of Hughes _____ where the meadow & river, crosses Peters Creek. It is understood by the parties to this indenture that the said Mathias Young executed to the said John Young a title bond for the above tract of land upon certain condition which condition was not complied with by the said John Young which is the cause of his conveyancy of this deed Any right or title that he might have acquired by virtue of the said conditional title bond together with all and _____ .the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtinances there into belonging to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its apppurtinances unto the said Robert Kelly, his heirs and assigns forever to the only proper use and _____ of the said Robert Kelly, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Mathias Young & Milly, his wife and John Young, for themselves, their executors, and administrators do convey with the said Robert Kelly, his heirs and asigns, the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtinances from themselves, the said Mathias Young & Milly, his wife, and John Young, their heirs, executors and administrators untio the said Robert Kelly, his Heirs and Asigns and against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whosoever shall and will warrant and forever find by these presents. Brenda Hickman visited the Wirt County Courthouse in West Virginia on August 7, 1998 where she discovered the names of Bazel Young's parents on the marriage record for his second marriage to Sarah Pickergill. Bazel was born in Kanawha County, VA/WV and his parents are given as Mathias and Nancy Young. Sarah's maiden name was Wilson and she was born in England.
      Researching Mathias Young Records:
Mathias Young married Milly Holliday in 1795 from Kanawha County Marriage Records. Mathias Young married Maria Tate 26 Aug 1838 in Kanawha County Marriage Records. Mathias Young married Nancy Sarah Hickman 5 Dec 1806 in an undocumented record.
A Mathias Young from Kanawha County was in the War of 1812 and that he was called to serve from 1 May to 30 Sep 1791 and again from Mar 1792 to Jan 1793.
A biography about Peter Young states that Mathias Young married a Miss Hickman in Greenbrier County, now Fayette County and later moved to Roane County then back to Kanawha County where he married Maria Tate. This biography said he died at 57 yrs of age. 13 children by first marriage and 4 by the second one.
A report at FHL in Preble Co found by Brenda said that Mathias and Nancy Young had other children born in Wood County, now Wirt Co.
1810 Kanawha County Tax Records show Mathias in what is now Nicholas County. From the information given estimated birth date of 1768, estimated marriage date of 1788, and estimated death date of 1830. Sent for free search offered by Broderbund.
Brenda found in the land tax book of Kanawha County Conrad, Charles, Henry, and Mathias all listed in the 1810, 1811, 1812, and 1813 books. In 1807 there was a Charles, Conrad, and Henry. In 1808 and 1809 none of them were in it. (may have been in Nicholas book then) In 1793 there was a Mathias and Charles. In 1794 there was a Conrad, and in 1796 there was a Conrad and Henry. This was in Kanawha. In 1792 Tithables there was Conrad and Mathias. In 1794 and 1795 there was Charles, Conrad, and Mathias. In 1810 Kanawha Census Heads of Household there was Henry with Nicholas Co. and Mathias with Nicholas Co. out from name and Charles with nothing out from his name. (this is same as 1810 Kanawha County County Tax Records above as it contained the tax records for 1806 and 1809).
Information from Becki Beckett that fits our Mathias
1. Mathias Young born about 1772 son of Conrad and Elizabeth (Hayes) Young
2. Mathias Young married Milley Holliday in 1795 by Samuel Johnson
3. Basil Young born 1797 married Nancy Bail (widow) 16 Apr 1817
Information from Becki Beckett which doesn't fit our Mathias
Mathias Geyhart Young reared in Greenbrier Co. now Fayette Co., WV married Nancy Sarah Hickman 12 May 1806 (too late). Mathias Geyhart Young married second Maria Tate 25 Aug 1838 (too late). Mathias S. Young married 4 Aug 1860 Harriet Casdorph (too late). Mathias Geyhart Young, Jr. married Mary E. Mundy in 1863 (too late).
17 November 1999 Brenda went to the Courthouse in Summersville, Nicholas County, West Virginia and wrote: I checked just deeds at the courthouse this morning and wrote down every YOUNG grantee in the 1800's in Nicholas County. Some of them have to be brothers (it was mostly men) to Bazel. I'll see if I can get this down so it can be understood.
      Under Grantees:
Bazil Young - James H. McCoy 1866: by deed: Book 10, Page 150 Strange Creek
Bazil Young - Judah Dobson 1835: by deed: Book 3, Page 261 Strange Creek

David S. Young - Mathias VanBibber deed 1896: Book 30, Page 65: Peters Creek
James Young - Willis Underwood Deed 1836: Book 3, Page 358: Peters Creek.
I didn't list all the Young Grantees. Just the ones listed for Strange Creek and Peters Creek.
Under the GRANTORS I found the following:
Bazel Young - John James Deed, 1826: Book 1 Page 462 Fee
Bazel Young - Hudson M. Dickenson Trust Deed, 1831: Book 2, page 379: Elk Rive

James U. Young - David Pierson Deed, 1856: Book 9, Page 228 Peters Creek
Jane Young - Hamilton Burton Hickman Deed 1881: Book 15, Page 482: Hamilton District
Now this could be kind of interesting. It proves nothing really but could be pursued:

MATHIAS Young Date: 06 May 1835 Location: OH, Document #: 9363 Serial #: OH0900__.205 Sale Type: CASH ENTRY SALE Acres: 80.0000 Meridian or Watershed: 1ST PRINCIPAL Parcel: Township 4 S, Range 16 E, Section 8

My thoughts (from Brenda):
Why would a man, at the time owning land meant everything, sell property to someone for one dollar unless it was connected through family in some way. Agnes Nancy Pierson had a brother Joseph and a
brother David. Like I said, none of this really proves anything but it
is interesting and maybe takes things a little farther. Love, Brenda
So from Brenda's findings we see that a Mathias is living in Nicholas County with a wife named Milly in 1823 who sold land on Peters Creek. A Mathias Young also sold land for one dollar to David Pearson and to Joseph Pierson. The first wife of Bazel Young was Agnes Nancy Pierson who had brothers named David and Joseph. We see that Mathias was in Ohio in 1833 from the deed to David Pearson. And the land deed in Ohio in 1835 shows that he was alive at that time about 60 years old.

From the Family Tree Maker web site of Tamra Monroe which proves that the Mathias Young of Greenbrier County did not have a father named Conrad, but one named George Young/Jung:
Notes for George Jung , Jr.:

Notes from Charles and Hazel:
George's will was dated 4 May 1823 but probated 25 Aug 1826 in Augusta County, Virginia His first purchase of land in Augusta County was in 1794. Catherine and he lived for a short time in Chester County, Pennsylvania and possibly Lancaster County, where their oldest son Mathias Geyhart Young is said to have been born in 1788. He first paid personal property tithe tax in Augusta County in 1789, the year that their second child, Ann was born.

  Notes for Millie Holliday:
There is a Milly Young in the 1820 Census of Nicholas County.

2 Males under 10 (1810-1820) 1 female under 10
1 male 10-16 (1804-1810) 1 female 10-16
1 male 16-18 (1802-1804) 1 female 16-26 (1794-1804)
2 males 16-26 (1794-1804)

There is a Mathias Young also listed in the 1830 census of Nicholas.

1 male under 10 (1810-1820)
1 male 16-26 (1794-1804)
1 male 45 & over (1775)
No females in family.

The female listed in 1820 could not be the Milly Young who married Mathias Young in 1795, but could be a daughter. The one male born 1802-1804 could not be her child and the two males born 1794-1804 could not be her children.

In an e-mail 8 Aug 2001 Brenda Hickman writes:
In Kanawha County in 1810 there was one Holiday except they spelled it Daniel Holyday. Didn't find him in 1820 Census in Kanawha County. Then in the 1830 Census Daniel Holiday showed up but in Nicholas County. In 1820 in Nicholas County there was a Joseph Hollidsay. And in 1826 in Nicholas
County there was a David Holliday who married a Polly Lilly.

Braxton County in the Year 1836 Persons Names Chargeable With Taxes
The following is a list of taxable property and tithables within the County of Braxton for the year 1836. Braxton County was formed in that year from parts of Lewis County, Nicholas County and Randolph Counties. There were 455 white males over 16 years of age (the first number after each name) in the county. These tithables owned a total of 38 slaves (the second and third number after each name), 577 horses (the fourth number after each name) and 5 studs (the fifth number). At that time there were two free negroes residing in the county. The slaves were divided into two categories, those males between the ages of 12 and 16 years and those males over 16 years of age (the second and third number after each name). One man in the county owned a carriage - Marshall Triplett.

Although the identity of John Young's father is not certain, I have added him to the children of Mathias as the family tradition is that John Young's son, David, was a cousin to Henry Young. Therefore John and Bazel would be brothers and Bazel's father is Mathias.
Information for the descendants of David Young is from Craig Hill in an e-mail dated 24 Mar 2001.

a
McCoy family which also had 7 people by the name of Boggs living
there
