256. William Hickman, died 1683 in Accomack County, Virginia.

Notes for William Hickman:
Information from Ray Cooley: Wills and Administrations, Accomack Co., VA 1663-1800, Vols 1 & 2 edited by Stratton Nottingham and Accomack Co., VA Wills and Deeds 1676-1690 (vi), page 341, Box 3 ... to seven sons 1,000 acres (which he patented 9 Oct 1667 in Accomack Co., VA to be divided equally (135 acres each) as they come of age. He also lists his wife (un-named) and three daughters. The sons names were: Richard, William, Joseph, Benjamin, Henry, Roger, and John.
Richard and John died before 1747 without heirs or issue. William removed to Somerset Co., MD and started the Hickman line in this Family Tree Maker report. Joseph moved to Delaware and his grandsons returned to Accomack Co., VA and left a long line. Benjamin and Henry stayed in Accomack Co., VA and both left a long line. Roger married in Accomack Co., and had three children.

Ray Cooley has a copy of a deed of land (Ref: Accomack Co., VA, Deeds 1746-1747, pages 72-73) in which William Hickman gives his son Richard (brother of Arthur) the 135 acres of land. The deed noes not give the acreage nor does it describe the land. The date of the will of William Hickman, 1st (the elder) is not cited. However, both William Hickman, 1st. and 2nd. are listed and subsequent deeds from Richard Hickman to Simpson in 1785 and William Hickman in 1786 indicate that the acreage was 135 acres. This is the key deed relevant to linking William Hickman 1st (the elder) of Accomack who died in 1683 being the father of , William Hickman 2nd of Maryland who died in 1765 and Richard Hickman who died after 1785 and was Arthur Hickman's brother.
