Vallie Prather was my great-grandmother. There is a grave next to James and Mary Voorhees of a daughter Mirtle B. born 12-19-1882 and died 3-24-1897.

      Lenore Radcliffe Yeager remembered:
"Grandma(Mary Florence Seckman) used to talk about the war. She told us about
the Soldiers coming to their farm and that "Pappy" had to go with them. She
said they took most of their horses and other things. Pappy's nephew was
staying with them. He was only l5 and sickly. She said they dressed him like
a woman..in a long dress and bonnet..
He sat down at the spinning wheel and started spinning when the soldiers came
in the house to look for more men and valuables. Pappy got pneumonia. He was
almost dead when they finally brought him home. He recovered but was never as
strong again."
      Mary Florence owned and operated the Cowen Hotel in Cowen, West Virginia.
