Notes for Christopher Huffman:
Will Book A Will of Christopher Huffman of Mansfield Woodhouse Twp., Sussex Co., dated 21 Mar 1801 probated 6 Oct 1804. Mentioned in his will were "my" wife Amey, daughters, Else Flock, Elizabeth Shiner, Mary Airs (Ayres), granddaughter, Mary Shiner, grandsons, Christopher Huffman Eirs and Christopher Shiner, sons-in-law, John Flock, Andrew Shiner, and Aron Airs. Executors were "my wife," Ammey Huffman and Nicholas Neighbor. Witnesses were Elisha Bird, John Bird, and Jacob Andrews.
In an e-mail dated 24 Jan 2002 Margorie Erlebach wrote in reference to Christopher:
I did find in the N.J. Genealogical Magazine that he is buried in the German Valley Union Churchyard
died 20 Sep 1804 aged 58 years, 4 months, 18 days. I believe this is in Morris County. I also have
information that he had a farm in Beattystown, in Sussex (Warren) County. A few years before his death he bought 800 acres across the river in Morris County (Hollingshead Tract).

In the 1773-1774 Knowlton Twp. Tax List there is a Henery Huffman and a Philip Huffman. In 1774 Newton Twnp. Tax List, Sussex County there is a Jacob and a Philip Huffman. I also searched the Knowlton Presbyterian church records and found a Henry Hoffman and wife Gertauta as sponsors for several children. (This was spelled "Hoffman".)

I have also been searching in German records. In a book written by Henry Jones "Westerwald to America" he lists a Johannes Henrich Hoffmann who emigrated to U.S. on ship Two Brothers 1749 with wife Anna Gertraud (same names as in Knowlton records). He had two children Anna Maria b. 1743 and Johann Matthias born 1744. There was a blank year for 1746 that our Christopher could have been born. I had a researcher read the German records from Hochstenbach, but she did not find our Christopher born in 1746.

In an email dated 2 May 2002 Marjorie Erlebach wrote:
I am still trying to find out the source of the information being spread all over that Christopher
Huffman, born 2 May 1746 is the son of Henry Huffman and Charity. I never did find a source. I
found a Heinrich Huffman and Gertrude Charity, his wife in the Knowlton, Sussex County Luthern
and Reformed church records as witnesses to several children's baptisms. Did not find birth of
any of their children in these records. I found a record of a Henrich and Gertrude in Henry Jones
book who gave their birth place. I looked at a German film from this place and found where he left to come to America with 2 children, but Christopher was not listed.

(128-129) Monday October 1 (1744) " ...Towards night rode about four miles, and met brother Byram; who was come at my desire, to be my companion in travel to the Indians. I rejoiced to see him; and, I trust, God made his conversation profitable to me: I saw him, as I thought, more dead to the world, its anxious cares, and alluring objects than I was..."
