Dean Echenberg
|
The first known Echenberg was Moses Echenberg. He was born at the end of the eighteenth or beginning of the nineteeth century in the Jewish Shtetl of Ostropol in the province of Volynia, in what is now the Ukraine. At the time it just been transfered from Poland to Russia. The Echenberg patronymic derives from the Yiddish "Hech em barg", or "high on the hill", perhaps denoting the family residence on raised land. This description and the genealogical information presented is taken from the Echenberg family calender and the genealogy chart prepared by Harry Echenberg for an Echenberg Reunion in 1992 in Magog Quebec. There is much detailed information missing on the generations long gone. If anyone can add to the data it would be great.
