| I am a first generation Canadian. My mother is English (maiden name Spong) and my father is Polish (hence the Basinski). My husband is from British Columbia and his family has been here for at least a century. (Eckville, AB, was founded by and named after his great-grandfather.) My mother's cousin has done a complete family tree of my grandmother's side of the family (her maiden name is Ferdinando), but we are still looking for info on my grandfather, Frank Keil Spong and his ancestors. I am also interested in information on my paternal grandparents - Maria Hilferding Basinska and Antoni Basinski. Antoni died during WWII and Maria travelled with my father and his brothers and sister to England. They later emigrated to Canada. I am just as interested in the Eckford/Gibson (mother in law's maiden name) side of the family and would appreciate hearing any info related to them as well. The Eckfords are from Ireland (via Scotland) - Sean's great grand-father founded Eckville, Alberta early in the 20th Century. The Gibsons are from Ireland and Australia. My husband's grandfather married a Mathieson. Though we know some of her family history, I'd love to know more. Any and all help is appreciated. |
