"Birth records do not become open public records until they are fifty years old, and death records become open after twenty-five years. Indexes for open records years are referred to as general indexes and indexes for years which are not yet open to the public are called summary indexes.  Birth indexes before 1926 are not available in electronic form. They can only be obtained on microfiche." - TX Bureau of Vital Statistics
The General Birth Index (1926-1949) includes the last, first, and middle name, if any, of the registrant, date of birth, county of birth, and sex of registrant, and may also include father's name and mother's maiden name.
The Summary Birth Index (1950-1995) includes the last, first, and middle name, if any, of the registrant, date of birth, county of birth, and sex of registrant.
