I am researching the families of Treece, Boruff, Hopper, Collinsworth, Meltabarger, Goin, Stalling, and Owsley (as well as many other side branch families) all settling in the Claiborne, Union, Knox, and other surrounding counties in Tennessee. Any help in info, pictures or hints for any of these families and their ancestors are always greatly appreciated. If you see any corrections that need to be made, PLEASE let me know. This is an ongoing work in progress. I can't forsee it ever ending.
It has been brought to my attention that perhaps the Michael Treece that my family branches from may not be Peter Treece's (Dries)son. (Thanks Mary Lou!) It has not been proven one way or the other I don't think, but I have been digging and poking around trying to get something other than our Michael's Revelutionary War info and census records. If anyone has any information regarding this branch - PLEASE let me know as it would be greatly appreciated. Due to this little snafu I have ran into, I am currently trying to update and correct some of my info and double check my records. Back to the books!
As of August 2007 we have submitted DNA to the Treece Family, Parks Family, and the Cumberland Gap DNA Family Tree Projects. Because this DNA is directed from the males, we were in search of the father of William David Treece, son of Frances Treece who never married. We were able to determine that the DNA match came back to a decendant of Joseph Parks of Blount County, TN (and N.C.). I wish we were able to narrow it down even more, but this is more information than we had, so I'm grateful.
Big "THANK YOU" to: Dianne Tipton for an abundance of info on the Treece family and for pointing me in the right direction. As well as Mary Lou Clegg for helping to provide clarification for a large amount of information regarding several branches of the Treece families and narrowing down the correct Michael Treece my family decended from.
Mary Honeycutt & Amanda Boruff for all of their help and continued help in locating our Boruff families. As well as forging a wonderful frendship. Thank you to Nancy Zechman at Host Church for all of the wonderful church and cemetary pictures and to Johnathan Del Collo for pictures of Simon & Valentine Boruff's memorial stones. And a big thank you to Mary Elkhart (I think I spelled it wrong Mary!). Between Mary H., Mary E., Amanda and myself, we are having a good time researching the Boruff family.
A big "thank you" to Charlie Gibson for help on the Meltabarger families, all of the pictures and warm family friendship.
Charlotte Johnson for tons of information and the invitation to join her Collinsworth Family website. Great information from my family's connection to Orphia Collinsworth (wife of A.J. Boruff).
With regards to the Owsleys, I did obtain a lot of information from the Owsley Family Tree website. Here again, Dianne Tipton pointed me there. If you are searching for the Owsley families -the Owsley website is the place to go and the people to contact.
