I am researching the ancestors and descendents of my great grandparents, Eric John (Johansson) Edlund and Maria Margareta (Åström) Ostrom who immigrated to the USA from Sweden.
Eric John Johansson, born June 28, 1865 on the farm at Ramsta, Floda Parish, Södermanland, Sweden. He was the oldest son of Johan Ericsson and Christina Catharina Ersdotter. Eric had one sister and four brothers who lived to adulthood. Sister Anna Augusta remained in Sweden her entire life. Eric was the first to emigrate to America and he arrived in New York on May 4 1886 aboard the ship Italy from Liverpool England and Queenstown Ireland. His three younger brothers eventually emigrated to America too. Eric changed his last name to "Edlund" in Sweden a few years before moving to the USA. Brothers Carl Axel, Gustaf Emil, Albert Ferdinand and August Gotthard retained the family name of Johnson in the USA.
Maria Margareta Åström, born December 5, 1867 at Moviken, Bjuråker Parish, Gävleborg, Sweden, was the oldest of three daughters born to Anders Olof Åström and Anna Brita Englund. Anna Brita and baby sister Johanna Gustafva died shortly after Johannas birth in 1874. Maria Margareta emigrated to America and arrived in New York, NY in 1886. She changed her name to Mary Margaret Ostrom. Sister Anna Brita came to America in 1871. Anders and his second wife Brita Bergström and their children also came to the USA and settled in Minnesota in 1888.
Eric John Edlund and Mary Margaret Ostrom met in the Chicago area and were married in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1894. They lived in Chicago IL where sons Eric Emanuel, Gust Benjamin and Charles Paul were born. They moved to Hobart IN in about 1899 where children Abel Nathaniel, Herbert Daniel, Gustave Benjamin and Esther Marie were born. The family moved to Seattle WA in 1906. Daughter Ruth Margaret was born in 1908. Their descendents remain in the greater Seattle area.
