Edridge in the London area

Updated February 4, 2007

My branch of the Edridge family is known back to 18080, when my gg grandfather George Edridge married Mary Daines in Christchurch, Surrey. We have no known Edridge relatives except for my immediate family, although George had sons whose descendants we have not traced. George's son Walter only had one son who in turn had one son, and so on to our grandson.

Other ancestors on my father side include Dickinson and Griffiths. My mother, nee Couch, was born on the IOW, where most of her ancestors were from, including Mew and Odell. The Couch side, although living for 3 generations in London, were originally from Bristol.

My wife's father, a Houston, was Irish, so research is difficult. However her mother, a Carpmael (the London patent Carpmaels) kept good records so we know a little about the Houstons and their ancestors Neill and Hicks. The Houstons share ancestors with the McLaughlins, for which there is a family history site on the internet going back to Edward I of England.

Both our parents kept scores of old photographs from about 1850 that really add to our genealogy. Also my father kept mnay notes and wrote several pages of family history from a very personal perspective, telling us about the interesting idiosyncrasies of many of our nineteenth century ancestors.

We like to share our family history and hope to find relatives who can tell us more about our ancestors.
