Indenture from John Steele to Henry Jones, Washington Co. VA 1820

This Indenture made this twenty eighth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty Between John Steele of the Parish of Quachila in the State of Louisiana of the one part and Henry Jones of the County of Washington in the State of Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Steele by Philip Beddenger his attorney in fact for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred thirty four dollars current money to him the said Philip Beddenger as attorney in fact for the said John Steele in hand paid doth bargain and sell unto the said Henry Jones and his heirs one certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the said County of Washington being that undivided moiety of a certain tract of land containing three hundred and fifty six acres lying on both sides of the middle fork of the Holstein river but principally on the north side of the said river which was devised to the said John Steele by the Last Will and Testament of Samuel Steele dec. which bears date on the 2nd day of December 1807 proved and admitted to record in the Court of Rockbridge County at July Court 1808 with all appurtenances To have and to hold the said undivided moiety of the said tract of land with all appurtenances unto the said Henry Jones and his heirs to the sole use and * of him the said Henry Jones and his heirs forever And the said John Steele for himself and his heirs doth covenant with the said Henry Jones and his heirs that he the said John Steele the said undivided moeity of the above described tract of land ans which moiety is hereby intended to be conveyed to the said Henry Jones unto him the said Henry Jones and his heirs against the claims of all persons whatever shall Warrant and will forever defend. In Witness whereof the said John Steele by the said Philip Beddenger his attorney in fact hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written.

This Indenture of bargain and sale between John Steele of the one part and Henry Jones of the other part was acknowledged in the Clerks Office of Washington County on this 27th day of June 1820 before Jacob Lynch deputy Clerk of the said County by Philip Beddenger attorney in fact for said John Steele as his act and deed and ordered to be recorded.
