Deed of Indebtedness: William D. Jones at Carter County, Tennessee 1838

Know all men by these presents that we William D. Jones, principle, and John and William K. Blair, Security do acknowledge our selves indebted to Reuben Roddy in the sum of three thousand dollars to the payment whereof we bind ourselves, our heirs and Jointly and Severly and firmly by these presents to witness our hands and seals this 19th July 1838. Conditioned as follows that this said Jones and Blair shall on the payment of the Note this day Executed by said Roddy to Jones, the last of which is due Christmas next shall make or cause to be made a good and valid Deed in fee simple of in and to the tract of land whereon the said Jones now lives and which he purchased from Henry Howe containing one hundred and twenty-five acres which title is to be made to the said Reuben Roddy according to and to completely correspond in metes and bounds with the deed from fore to said Jones in the event of doing which the above bonds to be null and void otherwise to remain in full force and * in law. Given under our hand and seals this day and date above.
