STRAND, Herbert A.
Madison - Herbert A. STRAND age 79 passed away on Monday November 28, 1983,
at a local nursing home. He was born on January 30, 1904 in Glenwood,
Minnesota. He was employed with the Democrat Printing Company, which later
became Webcrafters, Inc. for many years. He retired in 1963. He married the
former Myrtle Boness on October 4, 1930, in Dubuque, Iowa. They had
celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She preceded him in death in
February of 1982. Herbert was a former member of the Eagles Club.
Surviving him are two sons Gary of Madison and Jame of El Cajon California;
a daughter Mrs. Jerome (Maureen) Syverud of Madison, seven grandchildren;
six sisters, Frances Bessinger of Seattle, Washington, Evelyn Phoenix of
Preeceville Saskatchewan, Doris Rosten of Preeceville, Saskatchewan,
Lillian Soehniein of Madison, Phyllis Anderson of Edmonton, Alberta, and
Verna Walker of Winnipeg, Manitoba: and two brothers Wilfred of Vancouver,
British Columbia, and Lorne of Preeceville, Saskatchewan. He was further
preceded in death by a son Herbert in 1949; a brother Ernest; and a sister
Alva. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME 5203
Monona Drive, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday December 1. The Reverend Gleen
Bragstad will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 30, at the
funeral home.

Buried in Roselawn Cemetary in Madison, Wisconsin (North End) next to wife and son.

Moved to Preeceville, SK Canada with his parents in 1906 and returned to the United States in 1928.

for Alva STRAND sister of Herbert

Funeral Service: Death visited, for the first time, the STRAND family of
North Prairie, and took away their little gifted and beloved Alva, 15
years of age. Of 11 children this is the first one to pass away.
Alva died on Palm Sunday, at 2 o'clock in the morning, after an eight
days' illness. The cause of death was pneumonia. The funeral took place
in the North Prairie church on Holy Thursday at 2 o'clock, with the church
filled to capacity with friends and relations. The pall bearers were six
young boys, Delmar Melsness, Norris Sandager, Wilbur Roste,
Spenser and Loyd Rosasen and Randall Hansen.

The service was conducted by Rev.Haaland in the Enlish language, who
spoke on the words of Peter in 1 Peter 1:5-9. A duet was sung by
Rev. and Mrs. Haaland "Ved Barnets Baare" - "Farvel da, barn,
Fra mor og far; Farvel fra soskendflok Farvel i Jeau nava, -du har
Nu arv og eie nok" "Jesus Lover of My Soul" was beautifully sung
in a quartette by Mrs. Sandager, Henry Braum, Evelyn and Ludvis
Molsness. The congregation sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus"
before the father and mother six sisters and four brothers. Two
brothers, Earnest and Herbert, came from Madison, Wisconsin, to
attend the funeral, and a sister, Mrs. Howard Johnson and her husband,
from Estevan. There is also an uncle, Mr. Carl STRAND of Ketchen,
a brother of Mr. STRAND, besides a number of cousins.
May God comfort and strenghten the bereaved ones.

Madison - Mrs. Herbert (Myrtle H.) STRAND age 68, of 733 Winchester
Street, died at her home of an apparent heart attack, on February 10, 1982.
The former Myrtle H. Boness was born February 10, 1914 in Fall River,
Wisconsin and was a Madison resident since 1930. Mrs. STRAND was employed
by Manchesters Inc. in the sales department for many years, and then worked
for many years in Central Colony Food Service and retired in 1976. She was
married to Herbert A.J. STRAND on October 4, 1930. Servivers in addition to
her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Jerome (Maureen) Syverud of Madison: two sons
Gary A. of Madison and James D. of San Diego: a borther James Boness of
Columbus, Wisconsin; Seven grandchildren and three great grand children.
She was preceded in death by a son Herbert F. in 1949. Funeral services will
be held at the RYAN FUNERAL HOME 2418 North Sherman Avenue at 9:30 a.m on
Saturday, February 13, 1982. Reverend Gleen W. Bragstad will officiate and
burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the RYAN
fUNERAL HOME, from 5:00 to 8:00

Fall River

Wm. Lees an old resident here died at his home Tuesday morning.
Funeral was Wednesday afternoon at the house.

Mr. William Lees was born in Farndon, North Hamptonshire, England
February 5, 1821. He came to this country in the spring of '47 and
lived at Waukesha six years, returned to England and was married to
Miss Mary Allen December 15, 1853, after which they came to this country
and resided in Waukesha six months, then to the town of Westford where
they lived 12 years and where their son was born. In 1866 they moved
to the farm one-half mile north of Fall River where he lived until his
death which occurred on July 14, 1908 at the age of 87 years, 5 mo. and
9 days.
His wife and son survive. He also leaves, to mourn their loss, four
grandchiildren and three greatgrandchildren.
The services were conducted at the house Wednesday afternoon by
Rev. Dr. Murrish and the interment took place in the Fall River
cenetery.

Mrs. Fred Lees underwent an operation at St. Marys Hospital
at Columbus, at this writing is doing as well as can be expected.

Will Lees of Decator, Ill. was called here by the serious illness of
his mother, Mrs. Fred Lees.


July 13, 1921

Will Lees Jr. of Decator, Ill. returned home Sunday after visiting
relatives here the past week.


August 3, 1921 Wednesday

Mrs. Fred Lees died at her home in the village early Sunday morning.
Funeral was held from the M.E. church Tuesday at 2 P.M. Rev. Lane
officating. Surviving are her husband two daughters and two sons.

Will Lees of Decatur, Ill. was called here by the death of his mother
Mrs. Fred Lees.

Fred Lees and son George have moved their household goods to the home
of his daughter Mrs. Boness near Columbus, and will make their home there.

Fred A. Lees

Fred A. Lees was born on the 13th day of February 1855, in the town of
Westford, Dodge Co., Wisconsin, and died at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. Robt. Boness on the 14th day of December 1927, at the age of 72 years
10 months and 1 day.
His boyhood was spent with his parents, William and Mary Lees, who
moved, when he was 11 years old to a farm one half mile north of Fall River.
In 1919 he left the farm and moved into Fall River living there until eight
weeks ago.
On the 3rd of July 1876, he was married to Sarah Battles. There were four
children all of whom survive. They are William A. Lees of Decatur Ill., Mrs
Robt. Boness and George Lees of Columbus, and Mrs. Jessie Lynch of Albany, Wis.
Mrs. Lees died July 31, 1921. Nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren
also survive. The funeral was held Saturday Dec. 17th, at the home of Mrs.
Robt. Boness. Burial was at Fall River. Rev. H. G. Trost of the Columbus
Broadway M.E. church officiated.

July 21, 1921

The barn on the Fred Lees farm was struck by lighting Sunday afternoon
and burned to the ground. Two head of horses and a calf were in the
barn and were victims of the flames. A considerable quantity of hay
and farm equipment were consumed. Jesse Lynch, a son-in-LAW of Mrs. Lees
occupied the place.
