| This home page is set up to locate and fill-in-the-blanks on some mysteries surrounding the Gustav A. Groppel family. Gustav A. Groppel came to Texas from Prussia, Germany in approximately 1856 accompanied by his wife Mary Schmelzkopf and her sister Scharlotta Schmelzkopf as well as Mary's young son Wilhelm Heinrich Groppel who was born in Hanover, Germany on January 1, 1856. They settled in Washington County, Texas. They lived and bore children in the towns of Burton, Texas, Levi, Texas, Buckholts, Texas and Zionsville, Texas. Most of the birthdates are clear, but death dates are vague and the children of this ancestor are step children because Mary died in approximately 1860 and Scharlotta became Gustav's new wife in 1861. Two more children were born after that, Louis Groppel December 21, 1862 and Gustav Groppel Jr. January 15, 1869.Gustav A. Groppel died in 1869 approximately but his burial whereabouts are unknown.I am looking for both Gustav A. Groppel's parents and more information on his grandchildren that resulted from Wilhelm, Louis, and Gustav Jr. I am a descendant of Gustav Jr.I am an amateur researcher, so any help that anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
