I started out simply researching the EGELAND surname, but have since expanded to be researching several surnames. I am married to Virgina S. Larson and added all of her family names to those I already had, so am now up to researching 10 different surnames.
My grandfather, Christian Egland, was born in Bergen, Norway March 9, 1873 and came to America in 1891. My grandmother, Ingeborg Karine Moe, was born in Etne, Norway October 17, 1873 and came to America in 1892. They both settled in the Story County, IA area and married on January 20, 1895. To this union were born six children; Ellen, Iver, Inga, Clarence, Myrtle, and Amos. I am a descendant of Clarence who, along with his father and brother, decided to change the spelling of the family name to EGELAND, for what reason I'm not sure. I recently received a family history from relatives in Norway on my grandmother's family name, MOE, and that name has now been added to the list of surnames that I am researching.

My mother's parents were August Gottlieb Herke and Elizabeth Volkert Hoelzer. My grandfather August came to America in 1885 at the age of 25, and my grandmother came to America in 1871 at the age of 6. They were married on August 11, 1889 and to this marriage were born 11 children; Ida, William, Minnie, Frank, Elizabeth, Herman, Edmund, Susie, Martha, Clara, and Carrie. I am a descendant of Susie Hattie Herke. From this family descendancy, I am researching the families of HERKE, VOLKERT, GAST, and HOELZER.

My wife's parents were Sherman M. Larson and Velma Gusta Doolittle. Sherman was the son of Swen Theodore Larson and Annie Caroline Henderson and Velma was the daughter of Ira Dwight Doolittle and Gusta Johnson. The histories of the Henderson family begins with Lars Henderson (Henryson), born: March 27, 1822 in Etne, Norway and his wife Anna Askeldsdatter, born: January 2, 1826 in Etne, Norway. The history of the Doolittle family that I have traced so far begins with William Doolittle, born: ca. 1790 and his wife Hannah Willison, born: ca. 1788. The history of the Larson family as I have it so far, begins with Iver (Slettevig) Larson, born: Dec. 12, 1841 and Chestena Thompson, born: February 2, 1848. The history of the Johnson family begins with Morton Johnson, (dates unknown) and Anna Jorgeson (dates unknown). From my wife's side of the family, I am therefor researching; LARSON, HENDERSON, DOOLITTLE, and JOHNSON. As I continue my research, I'm sure I will also add the names of THOMPSON and JORGESON. There is never an end to the surnames that can be added.

I have fairly complete studies on the EGELAND, DOOLITTLE, HENDERSON, HERKE, VOLKERT, and LARSON families, but am constantly updating what I have. I am presently in the process of redoing the HERKE family book, adding many updates that I have recently received from family members. As I progress with each of these surnames, I would like to make a web page for each surname.
