* The Marden-Connelly Family Home Page*

Updated January 24, 2004

The Marden and Connelly families have lived in the Parishville and Colton, New York communities since 1855. Some of the surnames associated with our family include: Gorman, Leary, Perkins, Reynolds, McDonald, MacDonnell, and Cronin. The Learys came from County Kerry, Ireland. The Connellys came from County Kildare, Ireland. The Mardens came from New Hampshire to New York. The McDonalds and MacDonnells came from Scotland to Alexandria, Ontario.
George W. Marden (1810-March 30, 1894) married Mary E. Reynolds (1809-Jan. 16, 1894) on April 9, 1828 in Bolton, Canada, by James Thompson, justice of the peace. Sarah Marden, born c. 1774, mother of George W. Marden, lived with George and Mary. She died between 1850 and 1860. George was born in Massachusetts and Mary Reynolds Marden was born in Vermont. They are buried at Riverview Cemetery in West Parishville (Brown's Bridge). They lived at Brown's Bridge near a brook that was called Marden Brook.

Mary's brother, Jeremiah Reynolds married Mary Marden, daughter of George Marden, Sr. Jeremiah and Mary Jane Marden Reynolds owned and operated the Hollywood Inn at Stark, NY for many years. It was located at Hollywood Stillwater, fourteen miles south of South Colton. This landmark was razed to make way for the huge reservoir which flooded the area upon completion of the Carry Falls dam in 1953.

Hugh Connelly and Catherine Copeland Connelly (1786-Dec. 27, 1866) were the parents of Anthony Connelly (1829-Dec. 9, 1907). Catherine Copeland Connelly and her sons, Anthony and Christopher Connelly (1823-Sept. 18, 1894) came to the United States in 1855 from County Kildare, Ireland. Christopher Connelly was blind and lived with his brother, Anthony. Bridget Leary, wife of Anthony Connelly, came to the United States in 1859 from County Kerry, Ireland. Her parents were Cornelius (Con) Leary and Margaret Cronin. Bridget was one of six children. Four of the children (Bridget-1829, Daniel-1832, Ellen-1837, and Cornelius-1839) were christened at the Roman Catholic Church in Glen Flesk, County Kerry.

Anthony and Bridget Leary Connelly had five children: Ann Connelly (1859-1939), Hugh Connelly (1861-Jan. 26, 1908), Cornelius Connelly (Feb. 17, 1864-Feb. 17, 1926), Mary Ellen Connelly (1872-1950) and Anthony Connelly (1869-July 4, 1904).
