He may have been the son of Peter Praa, but thi s person is not mentioned as one of several grandchildren are in his grandfather's will, date d December 29, 1753. He lived in New York City. (VII) Matthew Thomas, son of Johannes (3) and Sara (Van Steenburgh) Van Zandt, wa s born September 30, 1796. He married Maria Johnson, born October 18, 1808, daughter of Re m and Maria (Johnson) Suydam (see Suydam V). Children: 1. Rem, of whom further. 2. (VIII) Rem, son of Matthew Thomas and Maria Johnson (Suydam) Van Zandt, was born i n Kingston, New York, in 1830, died in New York City, in 1867. He attended school at Kingsto n. He was a clerk in various stores in New York City, and learned mercantile business. Abou t 1859 he went
into business for himself, having a general store at Jamaica, Long Island, but he was in bus iness only about five years, when his health failed. He then moved to New York City. He mar ried, at Tarrytown, Westchester County, New York, in 1860, Emily, daughter of William and Eli zabeth Ann (Stammers) Sandford, who survived her husband and is now living at Liberty, Sulliv an County, New York. The Sandford family came from Belvidere, Warren County, New Jersey; Wil liam was born in New Jersey, and his father's name was also William. Elizabeth Ann (Stammers ) Sandford was born in England. Children of Mr. and Mrs. Van Zandt: 1. Emily, died in 1907 ; married Frank Lains Sevenoak, of Monticello, Sullivan County, New York; he is now principa l of Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey; no children. 2, Annie, married Wi lliam Carter Hanford, who died in 1894; she now lives at Liberty with her mother; they came t o Liberty in 1896, having previously lived for two yeas in Monticello, Sullivan County, New Y ork; no children. !Naturalized, 6 Dec 1715, , Spain
