I am researching the Smoot family and related families, primarily in Virginia and West Virginia. These related families include Alford, Anderson, Canty, Green, Meadows, and Totten.

I have not located much prior research regarding Hezekiah Smoot, born in 1869 to Alexander and Julie A. Smoot. It appears that Hezekiah Smoot was known at times as Richard Hezekiah Smoot. His death certificate is made out for "R.H. Smoot." Also, there are many different spellings of the given name "Hezekiah" in records related to the Smoot family (census indexes have listed "Nezekiah", "Ezekiah," and even "Ezekiel").

Most of the records of this branch of the Smoot family are in Logan County (then Virginia) and Boone County, West Virginia.

This is a fledgling effort. I hope that this site will eventually serve as a resource of sorts, as well.

One more child, John A. Smoot, listed on cemetery card as but stone not found (card reflects age 33, 1896-1930, born Toledo, Ohio, died April 10, 1930, buried April 14, 1930, cause of death = pneumonia. It also says he was son of RH and Margaret.
