Notes for Mary Frances Madewell: I have many wonderful childhood memories. The best of which was spending time with my grandparent's, Wiley and Roma Cline on their farm near Vealmoore, Texas. I could hardly wait for school to be out on Friday's to see if their car was at my house when I got home. If it was, that meant I got to spend the weekend with them. Most of the time it was. I can still remember the smell of that old Chrysler, about a 1948. As we drove to the farm, Grandma would say, "Now slow down Wiley, you are driving too fast". Grandpa was driving all of 30 miles an hour. Grandma told me that when I was a baby I would cry so much when they went home that she told me that if I didn't stop crying she would not come again. When she told me that, I didn't think it was very nice of her to say that. When I became a grandmother, many times that statement haunted me because my granddaughter would cry so hard I would be in tears too when I had to go home from her house. I then knew how she felt. I remember the day my brother Don and I got new bicycles. We came home from school for lunch. When we were in site of our house we could see two bikes setting in the yard. Don said, 'Carolyn and Wayne left their bikes at our house". (Carolyn and Wayne were neighbor kids). As we got closer we could see that they were not their bikes and we realized they must be ours. We had no idea that we were getting bikes. I always dreamed, as a child, to play piano well enough to play for church. My Dad would not buy me a piano. He said I would play for 6 weeks and never touch it again. When I was in 6th grade he finally bought me an old upright piano for $50. That was in 1960. Today I have a piano, an organ and a old antique pump organ in our living room, which we call our music room. I have played piano and organ at may different churches during the last 35 years. John and I both love music. He has a country western band. We play together for many special occasions. We sing at church, have sang for many weddings, funerals, etc. My other hobbies are genealogy, in case you have not figured that out by now, and quilting. When Jason, my youngest son, moved out, I redecorated our upstairs and made it my sewing area. Now my youngest child, Jason will be married on June 3, 2000. As I look back over the past 50 years I have a very hard time comprehending that I am 53 years old already. To me, that means life has been good and I have been truly blessed with the life God has given me. Mary Frances (Madewell) Eklund |
