|Hi! My name is Loretta Ekoniak and I am a high school science teacher and registered Medical Technologist. My hobbies are geneology, travel and books! My husband, Mike, is an autoworker for General Motors and his hobbies are street rods and toy trains. We have two sons, Michael, 16, and Nathaniel, 13. They both love computers. Michael loves Ford Mustangs and Nathaniel loves X-Files!.
I am researching both my husband's and my family roots and hoping to get a good start on them this summer. We are lucky in that we have some family members in Slovakia that we are still in touch with thanks to my mom and Mike's sister...however...as you all understand, there are still many gaps in the information!! Here are the families that we are researching:
Loretta's Family: HANUSCHAK (HANUSCAK, HANUSCIN) and KOLESAR, both from PORAC in the SPIS region of SLOVAKIA
BAKER(PEKAR)from KELCA,ZEMPLIN, SLOVAKIA and DILL(DIL, DILJ) from ZEMPLIN, village unknown. My grandfather, Michael Pekar came to the USA in 1911 at the age of 16
Mike's Family: EKONIAK(KONAK) from JAVOREK, SZEPES, Hungary (SPIS,SLOVAKIA) and FERENCUCHA from VOJKOVEC,SPIS,SLOVAKIA
NOVOTNY from KOTERBACHY, SPIS, SLOVAKIA and KALAFUT from OLSO, SLOVAKIA
Two of the main facts I am looking for right now: Where are the Dill's from? I know they settled in the Hazleton, PA area after coming from Slovakia.
Where is JAVOREK located? My info says, Spis, Slovakia, but I cannot find any mention of the village. Some people have suggested it may be part of Poland now. If anyone has heard of this village, I would appreciate any information.
