Welcome to the Vermont Eldred Family Home Page. The two main ELDRED lines in northern Vermont descend from brothers Stephen and Alfred Eldred. Stephen and Alfred both lived in Northwestern Vermont and were married to two sisters, Hannah and Elizabeth Sweet. They were daughters of Sylvester and Polly Sweet. Their father, Joseph Eldred, was Born in Pittstown, NY in the late 1700's and died prior to 1830, and was married to Catherine Daly. He was the son of Thomas Eldred and Hannah Congdon, and descended from Samuel Eldred and Elizabeth Miller, one of three original ELDRED immigrants (Samuel, Robert & William; all who came over around 1640 to Massachusetts from England). Some believe the three are brothers, but that has never been proven.

UPDATE on Warren Eldred, born 1841, Fairfield VT, went to the Civil War July 1862, deserted (they say) October 1862 from Vermont 9th Infantry Co A. The unit was in Chicago. Went possibly to prison, never heard of again. HELP!! Any input appreciated. LATE BREAKING CLUE - Warren Eldred MAY have moved to Wales in mid 1860s. I have spent years trying to prove or disprove what happened to Warren Eldred. My belief is that he was killed in action and never accounted for (the reason he was classified as a deserter).

THE THREE IMMIGRANTS - Do you have any info on how Samuel, William and Robert are related? William & Robert were probably brothers. But how does Samuel relate. Possible first or second cousin.

UPDATE on Ancestry of Haskell Mayo. He lived in Underhill, Chittenden County, Vermont. Father of Eva 'Daisy' Alnora Mayo, wife of my paternal great-grandfather, Cute Eldred. Please HELP!!! His father was Joseph J. Mayo (born 1826 ca. Clarenceville QC, CA), married to Elizabeth Harrington. This has been a dead end for years.

UPDATE on LONGLEY Ancestry for Vermont Eldreds. Nelson Longley (the oldest well-documented Longley ancestor was married to Mary Ann Anstey. They lived in St. Albans VT. He was said to be the son of Lander Longley and Angline LeBosh (according to his death certificate). These names (after lengthy research) have been determined to be Leandre Langlois and Angeline Casavant dit Ledaboucher. However, after further research, his real father was Leon Langlois (Leandre's brother), and they descend from a long line of Langlois back to France. More on this later as I have time to post it.

******* THE MYERS FAMILY *******

My mother's side of the family MYERS branch has been a huge brick wall. I'll post some of what I believe now in case someone may have connecting info.

My grandmother was Anna Frances Myers b:1901 Fairfield IN. Her parents were James Holman Myers and Mary Lillie Ellen Fisher. His parents were James Knox Myers and Mary Susan Wood. James Knox Myers was born May 12, 1845/1847 (prob. 1847). Mary Susan Wood was probably a native American (Kickapoo or Potawotamie). She lived in Madison Cty IN with "parents Daniel & Martha Wood). James Knox Myers and Mary were married in Madison County IN around 1869.

The brick wall is with James Knox Myers. His mother was probably Mary Ann Myers (b:1825) in Indiana. According to earlier censuses, her parents were from Germany. Later censuses list them from North Carolina. She married John C. Reed in Franklin Cty IN on August 2, 1849 as probably his second wife, as he had other older children. In the 1850 census in Blooming Grove Franklin Cty IN, Mary Ann Myers Reed lived with John Reed and his children, and JAMES K. MIRES, Age 3, place of birth IN.

There are clues that connect to Decatur County, as even though Mary Susan Wood lived in Rensselaer County when she died, her body was sent to Greensburg, Decatur County IN to be buried with her husband. So James Knox Myers lived as a child in Franklin and Fayette Counties, moved north to around Madison County around the time of his marriage in the lat

Related Files

Take a look at this file. It starts with Joseph Rubey in PA or VA in the mid-late 1700s to the present. UPDATE on Rubey/Ruby/Rubi ancestry. Joseph Rubey descended from other Rubey/Ruby family members in York County PA, and is the descendant of the RUBI family of Reichenbach Switzerland (more on this later as I have time to post it).
  • Descendants of Lander Longley & Angline LeBosh (2 KB)
These are parents of Nelson Longley (my gg-grandfather). Lander Longley was probably Leon Langlois, and Angline LeBosh was probably Angeline (Angele) Casavant-dit-LadeBauche. They were from Sainte-Antoine-Sur-Richelieu, Vercheres, Quebec, Canada. Also see my brief update above on the Langlois ancestry.
