I have just begun to research my husband's family surname ELGAR. From what I've found so far, they lived in western Massachusetts, Vermont(in the early 1800's) in Rhode Island(in the late 1800's until the present) and in eastern Massacusetts(from the early 1900's until the present). Since most of my mother's family is still alive I have also recorded the BRILLO family which had its origins in Portugal and the RODERICK family, my paternal relatives, which also originated in Portugal.
If you are aware of any Elgars I'd love to hear from you. Since the name is so rare they could be related. I know one of my husbands great uncles moved to California but I've not been able to get very far in finding him there.

If I can be of assistance to anyone researching in the New Bedford, MA area please feel free to E-mail me.
