* The Family Home Page Of The Elgin's, and Sebastian's*

Updated September 6, 2000

I have been tracing my ElginElgenIlgen ancestors for years. They arrived in America around the year 1842 from Saxony (or Prussia) Germany. They settled in the Baltimore, MD area, then moved west to the Westminster,Carroll Co.,MD area. Some members of the family changed the spelling to Elgen and others to Elgin. Solomon also went by the name Samuel. He was born in 1808 in Germany and died in Frizzelburg, MD in 1888. My grandfather, William Elgin, was born in Hagerstown, MD in 1896. He moved to Whiteside Co.,IL about 1910 or 1911. This family has been very hard for me to trace, but is the most important to me. Anybody having any information on this family or being related to it, I would like to have contact with.
The Sebastian family came from the Northern Region of Italy or Southern Section of Austria. Prior to Fortunato Sebastiani(born 1864), I have not been able to trace. He never talked about his European family.

Also, I am interested in obtaining any information on the Lowers family from PA,VA,WV, and IL. My great-great grandfather John Lowers died of TB in 1856, his widow Celia(Bennett)Lowers moved to IL in 1859 to Livingston Co. In 1860 she married Isahia Boyer and had children by him. My great-grandfather Caleb Lowers moved his family to Marseilles, LaSalle Co., IL. My great grandmother Marie had my grandmother by someone unknown to us somewhere either in Peoria, IL or maybe St.Louis MO. They may have been married. According to an obituary, her name was Mrs. Daveon(1921).I have been unsuccessful in finding this person, the closest I have come is a Joseph Daveon from St. Louis about that time(1906), then he is untrace. The name could even be Dave Vaughn or DeVaughn. Would like any help on this matter.

I am a descendant of one of the notorious Steiner's who left Germany on the "Neptune" and arrived at Philadelphia, PA about 1745. Mine being John Steiner born @1700, his grandson John Stoner fought in the Revolutionary War. He recieved a land grant in Richland Co., OH, and moved his family there. His grandson William moved the family to Marshall Co., IL.

Other names I am tracing are: Stratton's from Huntingdon Co., England, Eads's and Chalcraft's from Surrey Co., England. Castleman's from Jefferson Co., OH. Gosnell's, Haines's, Fritz's and Mopps's and Hyde's from around Carroll Co., MD. The Howard's from OH, IN, and IL. The Willson's from PA,OH, and IL. The Boumal's and Machiel's from Seraing, Belgium. And the Stager's and Ernat's from Germany and LaSalle Co.,IL
