Built by Slaves in 1842 William Ellis was a member of the 2nd TN. militia and fouhgt with Andrew Jackson at the Battle of Horse Shoe Bend in the War of 1812. All of William's son's ( of age)fought for the South during the Civil War.
William Ellis was one of very few slave owners in Sevier County at one time having as many as 27. The foundation of four of the slave quarters are still standing today around
the perimeter of the rubble of the estate dwelling.
