James was the son of John Ellis who served in the 31st. Inf. of the Confederate Army.James Ellis and Abbie Lowe were married on April 14, 1879 and lived
at Boyd's Creek. They owned and operated the Ellis Ferry. They sold out and moved to the Richardson Cove area, bought a 150 acre farm near the Little Pigeon River across the river from Pittman Center Road.Wher the Ellis Family Reunion's are held. James died of skin cancer in 1928.Abbie continued to live on the farm. Harrison and his family lived with her for awhile. his daughter, Ruby lived with her until the age of 16. Abbie died in 1941.
