Georgia Candice Asbury (daughter of James P. Asbury and Amanda Daugherty) was born March 18, 1885 in Tazewell County, Virginia, and died May 10, 1959 in Newport News, Virginia. She married William Richard Haley.
Notes for Georgia Candice Asbury: Her mother was full blooded Cherokee squaw. (...Georgia or Kansas) Ran her home as a boarding house during World War II. Supposedly related to Jesse James (still have to research this) Don't know lineage of her father...whether Indian, Anglo, or Negro. Carrier of Tuberculosis...passed to all of her children. Large woman, tall, large boned, with thick, black hair and very dark skinned.
Boarding House: 211 North 49th st. Newport News, Virginia Know that she owned this before WWII. This was a place during the war. Located at end of Ship Yard, she housed a lot of soldiers and USO workers. One of more famous was Red Skelton.
Sold house on 49th st. to James Gallins after her death. He is no longer listed there, as of March 15, 1996 (ProPhone CD) new listing in Geneology folder.
