NINTH GENERATION

264. Peter RENCH (95) was born about 1699 in Zweigsing, Canten of Bern, Switzerland. (144) He immigrated in 1736 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.(144) Peter, Margaretha and their four children immigrated to America in 1735 aboard the ship "Harle of London." Peter signed the Oath of Allegiance to Pennsylvania and the Kings of England on 9/1/1736, upon his arrival at Philadelphia.

From Leigh Schram's family group sheet for Peter Rench:

The passenger list of the "Harle of London" included Jonathan Hager, the founder of Hagerstown.

He died on 16 Mar 1772 in Frederick County, MD. (144) He was buried in Hagerstown, Frederick County, MD. "Peter and his family had extensive land holdings in Frederick County, MD (later to become Washington County, MD). They were active members of the German Reformed Church. Peter's will may be found in Will Book A-1, p. 411-413 of Frederick County. The will was drafted on May 3, 1771 and probated on March 16, 1772. He was laid to rest in the graveyard beside the Zion Reformed Church in Hagerstown, MD."

Additional information from Joe Bosserman of Covington, Miami County, OH provided to Leigh Schramm on 4/16/1997.

"A rough sketch has pointed towards the community Wileroltigen, in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland as the likely place of nativity of Peter Rentch." Other possibilities are Sohlingin, Germany (p. 148 Studebaker Book #1) or Alsase.

265. Margareth RENSCHIN(95) was born about 1702. From Leigh Schramm's family group sheets, originally provided by Joe Bosserman on 4/16/1997.:

"Margaretha's maiden name may have been Stahl. Speculation, and only pure speculation; one of her children may have had the fill name of John Stull Rench c. 1726-1804. Question: could Margaretha's maiden name have been Stull, aka Stahl? <only speculation>"
