| I am beginning to research my roots, which are in the families ELLIS, SPRINGALL, BETTS and HARVEY from Suffolk/Norfolk, England, and SMITH, DODD, AVERY and SCOULAR from Northumberland and Durham, England. My paternal grandfather was Hylton Charles Ellis, born 3 July 1887 in Loddon. His parents were Daniel James Ellis and Anna Maria Harvey - no further information. Paternal Grandmother was Agnes Harriett Springall, born 4 Dec 1883 in Lakenham, Norwich. Her parents were Edward Orlando Springall and Rosina Betts. My paternal grandparents had three children - Hylton Daniel Ellis (my father, killed in action 9 Dec 1940, when I was three weeks old), Richard William Ellis (killed in action 26 Sept 1945), and Amy Gladys Ellis, died 1979. I am specifically looking for any other offspring of either of the paternal great-grandparents. I am also looking for more information about my maternal grandfather's mother, Elizabeth Ann Avery (died 1907), and the ancestors of my maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Dodd, born 18 March 1897 at Seaton Burn, Northumberland. Her mother was Alice Rachel Ann Scoular, born 18 Dec 1864. This lady seems to have had a sister named Rachel Ann Scoular - confusing! I have some documents and photographs, and am happy to share scans of these. Any information would be appreciated - I am a real beginner! |
