From Robert Ellis:my father, Robert Dale Ellis, was born in Seymore, Indiana and had 9 brothers and sisters. His mother, Elizabeth Winterod, came from a family of Pennsylania Dutch which has its ancestry in Germany (I think). She and her husband, James Walter Ellis, lived in Ohio, & later in Indiana. One of my uncles--Earl Ellis--was (before joining the Salvation Army) the second-highest stilt-walker in the world with Barnum & Baily circus. An aunt, Esther, was a blues singer and had her own radio show during the depression (in Chicago). On my mother's side of the family, we are descended from David Morgan and Morgan Morgan, who were among the first settlers of the area which became West Virginia. Both the Morgan's and the Layman's (my mother's father) were originally from Wales. I would like to find more information on the Morgan & Layman families, also the Ellis or Winterod (Winterood & other spellings) families. |
