| Elwin B. Ely (1888-1969) was my husband's grandfather. Elwin is descended through John Russell Ely (1800-1893) born in Genesee County, NY, who came to Brooklyn Twp., Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania with his father Zelophehad and uncle, Gabriel Ely, in 1813. I have a somewhat documented ancestral line back to Richard Ely (1610-1684) who came from Plymouth, England to Lyme, Conn. between 1660-1663. Many of the descendants of John Russell Ely still live in northeastern Pennsylvania. Elwin and his brother Glenn farmed together in Brooklyn Twp. where their families shared a duplex farmhouse. They were active in the Dairymen's League Cooperative and Glenn later served two terms as Representative of the 111th Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. I am still gathering information on Glenn's descendants. I have information on the grandchildren, g.grandchilren, g.g.grandchildren of Elwin, but have not published them. I may supply that upon request to family members. |
