A Genealogical history of some North Cumbrian Families.
The Emmerson surname is a "County Durham" surname. Weardale in County Durham, seems to to be where my ancestors originated from. The first record of Emmerson,s in the USA appears about 1650
The surname EMMERSON or (Emerson) is derived from Aimeric / Aimerick / Haimerico / Emericus. Emmerson, like other 'son' names is only to be found in the parts of britain colonized by the Danes and Norsmen.
The main couple in the "Cumberland Emmerson Family" are John Emmerson (1773) and Isabella Clemitson (1777) Their tombstone is in Thursby Churchyard, and in fair condition.
