Marriage Notes for Phillip Brantley and Joyce Lewis:
A child of this marriage died in 1694, as a court appearance was continued because of the death of Phillip Brantley's child.
Marriages of Isle of Wight, pg. 320, lists the marriage date of Phillip and Joyce as 1692. Therefore, either this date is incorrect, or Phillip Brantley was married before this marriage.
There is reason to believe the 1692 date: In his will of 1692, John Jewis (brother of Joyce) lists legacy to, "Phillip Brantley and his five children; sister Joyce Brantley."

  Notes for Phillip Brantley, Jr.:
Granted land in Isle of Wight Co., VA in 1724 (which might have been located in the portion of the Co. that became Southampton Co.). This grant could be to Phillip, Sr.
In Jun 1750 (before Southampton Co.) a court case between Henry Applewhaite (Applewhite) and Phillip Brantley is entered in Isle of Wight Co. (illegible, short description).
Living in Southampton Co., VA from 1751 to 1757; guardian for Thomas, John and Prisilia Applewhaite during those years (Thomas 1751-1754 only). These children are believed to be from the marriage of Thomas and Mrs. Thomas Applewaite who also had a daughter Holland. It is reasonable to assume that Henry and Thomas, Sr. Applewaite were related (probably brothers).
On 8 May 1755, sold to Jesse Brown [DB 2.73].
On 9 Mar 1758, sold John Brantley [DB 2.214].
On 24 May 1752, in the will of Nicholas Cobb of Nottaway Parish, Southampton Co., said Cobb left son Samuel, 'land belonging to old Phillip Brantley'. [WB 1, pg. 208]
-----
In a deed from Isle of Wight 23 Oct 1758:
Francis Russwurm of Isle of Wight sold to Robert Fry of Nansemond 100 acres (being land willed by Edward Brantley, St. on 30 Mar 1688 to his daughter Mary Brantley, and it descended to her son and heir John Deberry, who sold it to Thomas Royall on 4 May 1716 and it was then sold by Thomas Royall, son and heir of the aforesaid to William Harrison on 22 Jan 1739 who sold it on 2 Nov 1749 to John Meacom who sold it to John Hayndman on 3 Oct 1754) adjoining Ashen Swamp and Phillip Brantley.
It would seem that from the above deed that Phillip Brantley, Jr. owned the original tract of land given to Phillip Brantley by his father Edward Brantley, Sr.

Marriage Notes for Phillip Brantley and Mary Council:
2nd marriage of Mary Council.

iv.   Child #4 Brantley747, born Bef. 1692; died Unknown.
