John Qualman, his second wife, Elizabeth, and the children sailed from Hamburg on the bark "Donau" arriving at New York on December 10, 1853. The ship was built in 1853 for the Hamburg-Amerikanische Paketfahrt-Aktiengesellschaft (HAPAG, Hamburg-America Line). The Qualmans settled in Rome, New York and moved on to Ahnapee, Kewaunee Co., Wisconsin in 1867.
