Louisa (Neumann) Heuermann was widowed just weeks after arriving with her first husband and four children in America in 1890. Christ Braun was killed when the clay pit he was digging in collapsed on him, in Audubon, Iowa. Louisa was pregnant with her fifth child at the time. She married Henry Heuermann seven months later.
