Anna Wedewart died at her home in Sturgeon Bay, Wis. on December 30, 1961 at the age of 94. She was never hospitalized in her entire life! Anna worked as a cook in hotels in Algoma and Sturgeon Bay before marrying Willie Wedewart in 1902. They raised their children, Martha, Mick, and Esther across the street from the Little Lake (Bradley Lake) in Sturgeon Bay. George Poh, like his brothers, loved to hunt and fish. He was the grain buyer at the Teweles & Brandeis grain elevator in Sturgeon by for over 30 years. He married Martha Wedewart in 1924 and they raised their children, Helen, George ("Pudge"), and Mary on the "Sawyer" side of Sturgeon Bay. Minnie Poh died in Forestville, Wis. on July 27, 1926 at the age of 59. She was born in Rome, N.Y. on February 25, 1867 to Casper and Minnie Hettiger and moved with them to Forestville later that year. Minnie married John Poh, the Forestville miller, on September 19, 1886 in Sturgeon Bay. The couple raised seven children in their little home by the mill and pond. On February 15, 1912, A.J.'s left lower lip and surrounding glands were surgically removed by Dr. E. S. Judd, at the Mayo Clinic. Pathologic examination of the specimen revealed a squamous cell epithelioma of low-grade malignancy. On August 30, 1913, A.J. wrote the letter shown. A.J. returned in September 1913; examination revealed a small lump in the area which was removed on September 8, 1913. This photo was taken in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. Chris is believed to have died in an accident while working on the railroad, perhaps in Northern Wisconsin. Lawrence Wypijewski died at the age of 48 in Wauwatosa on March 9, 1927. He was buried in St. Adalbert cemetery from St. Josephat's Church. This obituary was published in German in Der Nord-Western (Manitowoc) on October 29, 1885. Peter had died on October 22. The obit references his having held nearly every public office in Manitowoc Rapids. We know of town supervisor, town chairman, justice of the peace, county commissioner, constable, and both director and treasurer of the school board. This obituary from Milwaukee's Polish-language newspaper shows that Stanislaus Kanarek was a member of several Polish-American societies. One, the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America is the oldest Polish-American organization in the United States. It was viewed as "loyal" to the Catholic Church at a time when many Poles resented Irish domination of the church hierarchy. John Qualmann, his second wife, Elizabeth, and the children sailed from Hamburg on the bark "Donau" arriving at New York on December 10, 1853. The Algoma Record reported the Nov. 22 death of Minnie Krause in its Nov. 28th issue. Her birthplace, Schievelbein, Pomerania, was misspelled in the paper. Christoff Braun and Louise Neumann were married in or near Möhrungen, East Prussia about 1874. They boarded the North German Lloyd line's steamship, S.S. Karlsruhe, at Bremerhaven for America. They arrived at Baltimore on May 16, 1890 with their four children, and then moved on to Audubon, Iowa. Less than two months later, Christ died in a work accident. Michael Bernhardt married Bejettia Machinsky in or near Neisse, in Silesia, Germany. They had four sons before Michael's death in 1843. Bejettia and the sons made their way to America between 1850 and 1853, settling in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. They settled on government land in Forestville, Door Co., Wis. in 1855, where they started the town's first sawmill and first blacksmith shop. The business failed in the Panic of 1857. August and Anna Dembowski, of Poland, were the parents of Katherine, who married Lawrence Wipijewski in on November 24, 1895 or 1896 in Biczyna (or perhaps Byczyna) Poland. The family then moved to America. A naturalization record for the oldest son, Michael, says he arrived at New York on April 15, 1899. The family settled in Pennsylvania, perhaps other places, and then Milwaukee. Two generations of descendants are shown in this list. Construction of the Forestville Flour Mill began in late 1877. John Poh worked at the mill nearly all the years until it closed in 1920. He owned the mill for the latter half of that period. In 1887, John George Engel sued the C.M.& St.P. Rwy. for damages from a fire a train started in his fields. Here is a news item about the original trial, which he won, and the Iowa Supreme Court decision which affirmed his victory.
